Carabiners
Tactical Carabiners for Military and Outdoor Activities
A carabiner is one of those pieces of gear that earns its place fast. Small enough to ignore, useful enough to reach for constantly. Used by military personnel, law enforcement, hunters, hikers, and everyday carriers who need gear that stays where it's put. Whether you are organizing keys on a duty belt, securing gear to MOLLE webbing on a plate carrier, or clipping a cup to a backpack before heading out, the right carabiner keeps your loadout tight and accessible.
M-Tac tactical and military carabiners cover the full range of field and outdoor use, from lightweight plastic clips for everyday carry to aluminum and steel hardware built for demanding conditions.

Types of M-Tac Carabiners
- Plastic carabiners are the practical choice for lightweight organization and everyday carry. ABS construction handles daily mechanical wear without adding noticeable weight to the kit. The Grimloc and Tactical variants are built specifically for MOLLE attachment, with slots and cutouts that lock onto webbing securely. The S-Hook carabiner clip opens on both sides for fast attachment and removal of keys, flashlights, and small tools. Available in black, coyote, and olive. None of the plastic models are rated for climbing or heavy loads.
- Aluminum carabiners offer more durability and corrosion resistance for hiking, camping, fishing, and field use. The D-shaped lineup comes in army green and khaki, with breaking loads ranging from 12 kN to 22 kN depending on the model. Gate opening width on select models is 0.98 in (25 mm). The Keylock Bayonet Lock 4" meets EN362:2004/B standard and operates reliably even with gloves on. The aluminum Grimloc clips directly to MOLLE slings and holds gear without shifting or adding bulk.
- Steel carabiners are for situations where strength is the priority. The alloy steel 4" model handles a longitudinal load of 27 kN and a rupture load of 2,200 kg, with a screw clutch lock. For load-bearing use, both the steel 4" and the Keylock Bayonet Lock 4" are the models to consider.
What M-Tac Carabiners Are Used For
MOLLE attachment is one of the most common applications across the military carabiner lineup. Grimloc-type models in both plastic and aluminum create quick attachment points on backpacks, plate carriers, tactical belts, and shoulder straps. They also work internally for routing a hydration hose or radio cable inside a pack.
For keys and small gear, tactical carabiner keychains and S-hook carabiner clips keep everyday carry organized without bulk. The Key Retention model adds a retractable metal cord up to 65 cm long, so keys and small tools stay clipped and accessible at the same time. The Key Holder for belt attaches directly to a belt loop and keeps keys from shifting during movement.
Field carry extends beyond hardware. M-Tac offers a stainless steel mug, a vacuum thermo mug, and a spork set, each with a built-in carabiner hook for clipping to a pack or belt on the move.
How to Choose
Start with the load. For keys, flashlights, MOLLE organization, and lightweight outdoor activities, plastic or aluminum tactical carabiner clips are the right call. For load-bearing connector use, the alloy steel 4" model handles a longitudinal load of 27 kN with a screw clutch lock, and the Keylock Bayonet Lock 4" meets EN362:2004/B standard.
Then consider attachment method. MOLLE-specific models have slots built for webbing. Standard D-shapes clip to loops and rings. The S-Hook works best where you need frequent attach and detach.
Most models are available in sets of 2, 3, or 5, which makes sense for any build that needs multiple tactical carabiner clips across bags, belts, and gear.
